July Reading Wrap-Up

So, the end of another month….. This month I have posted only one book review and sadly no, it isn’t just because I have suddenly become terrible at getting around to writing reviews, I haven’t been reading. I do always have a book on the go, so I am in the middle of one but I just haven’t been getting through books the way I normally do. I’m not really sure why I’m not reading as much, I’m just not doing it. I guess I have been a little busier this month but still, one book is pretty lame for me. I think I just haven’t been finding books that interest me that much, and even those that seem quick and fun and like they might get me back into reading end up being far too long and just putting me off even more.

June Reading Wrap-Up

June has been another not so great reading month for me. I haven’t had any less time to read lately, I just haven’t been doing it is much as before, I haven’t even managed to get to my book subscription book from June yet. Technically I have still been reading, but I have been reading blogs more than books.

Unfortunately none of the books I actually did manage to read really stood out. I think that is part of the problem really, I keep ending up reading books that are just meh, so I’m less enthusiastic about reading in general.

May Reading Wrap-Up

So, I didn’t read as much in May as I have in the last few months, I only managed 5 books. I think it is because I read a classic and they usually take me longer to get through than other books for some reason. There was a reasonable genre mix in May though and even a non-fiction book which is very unusual for me!

April Reading Wrap-Up

So, April was an ok month for reading. I managed 7 books but some took a lot longer to get through than others. When a book is good I get through it quickly, the bad ones drag, and there was a really bad one this month!

Does it count as reading if it’s an audiobook?

So, I recently did a post about whether or not it counts as reading with graphic novels but what about audiobooks?

Like with graphic novels, in their wrap-ups many people on BookTube say they have read a certain number of books that month but when it gets down to it a bunch of the books are audiobooks, so do they really count? Or rather is it really fair to say they read them?

March Reading Wrap-Up

So, there is still another day of March but I am not going to finish my current book in that time so I thought I would do my wrap-up today.

I feel like it hasn’t been the best month for reading. Some of the books were pretty good, but none were amazing. I feel like most of the books have dragged a lot and I haven’t enjoyed reading as much this month. I still managed six books but that’s not as much as previous months.

I have been very good about writing reviews this month however, and have already reviewed all of the books!

Does it count as reading if it’s a graphic novel?

When someone tells me they are reading a book, I imagine a 200+ page novel with writing taking up the whole page on every page. You?

Often with BookTube I will be watching a video and someone will say they  have read 15 books that month and I  will think “wow, that’s loads”, usually though it turns out that they have “read” a lot of graphic novels, and I’m disappointed.

From my point of view, a graphic novel is essentially a longer/bigger version of a comic. Most people would say they “read” a comic however, so is it fair to say the same with a graphic novel? Or is it fair in some contexts but not others? Fair in the general population but not on BookTube for example?

February Reading Wrap-Up

So, February has been another good reading month for me. The last week was a little slower than the rest of the month but I am still pretty pleased with myself. I have finished 9 books so far this month but should finish my current one this evening.

I have read a good mix of genres this month, YA, thrillers, crime, contemporary and non-fiction!

I have also read a variety of formats this month. Until about six months ago I read almost exclusively on my Kindle but this month I have read ebooks, hardcovers and paperbacks. I have managed to persuade my fiancé to take me on two trips to the bookstore in the last few months and am building up a nice stack of books on my desk as a result!
